Aveinu Sheba Shamayim
Sitting at home in Toronto while Israel was under yet another attack from Lebanon, I felt helpless to do anything to show my love and support for the Jewish State. Every Shabbat in most synagogues, congregants say the prayer which begins with Aveinu Sheba Shamayim, our plea for the Almighty to watch over and protect the State of Israel. Out of my feelings of frustration and concern for what was happening in far away Israel, I began to paint what was in my heart and mind. You can see the symbols of the Northern mountains, the flag of Israel and heavenly clouds as pillars of defense, as in the Biblical account of the Bamidbar wanderings. Look carefully, and, as pointed out to me by someone viewing the painting on display, you may see a person holding a Torah scroll.
